JUNIOR TEAM’S 1ST ROAD TRIP—

The Jr. B team took their first road trip of the season. The team loaded the bus and left Thursday afternoon headed for New Hampshire and a league game against the Northern Mass Cyclones, a game at NESC against the Cape Cod Cubs and a game back in New Hampshire at the Salem Ice Center against Becker College.

The game on Thursday against the Cyclones at Cyclones Arena in New Hampshire, would see Jeff Holbrook in net. Jr. Titans got on the board first early in the 1st period with a power play goal by Timmy Higgins assisted by defensemen Tony Valentino and Andrew Ball. Late in the period the Titans would strike again, this time from Ken Yasenchock from Sergey Moiseyev. The period ended with the Titans leading 2-0. The 2nd period began with the Cyclones getting on the board early to pull within 1—but, the Titans responded with two quick goals—defensemen Andrew Ball scored with an assist from Ken Yasenchock at 6:17 and Patrick Dwyer scored on a wrist shot at 6:49 with an assist from Evan Hughes. Another power play goal from Ken Yasenchock assisted by Tony Valentino ended the period with the Jr. Titans winning 5-1. The Cyclones would score in the 3rd period to narrow the lead, but DJ Grogan found the back of the net with an assist from Matt Armenti to secure the win at 6-3. Titans put 43 shots on the Cyclones goalie, while Jeff Holbrook saw 25 shots.

Friday’s game was early in the morning at New England Sports Center against the Cape Cod Cubs—a fairly new club that play in the International Junior Hockey League (IJHL). The game would find Justin Woytanowski getting his 1st start since coming back off a groin injury. The Titans got off to a slow start and although scoring 2 goals, could not stop the Cubs—they scored 7 goals to win the game with a final score of 7-2.

Saturday’s game vs. Becker College (D2) found the Titans team well rested and ready to play. The team was back in New Hampshire at the Salem Ice Center in Salem. Justin Woytanowski was back in the net again today. Becker scored first but Ken Yasenchock evened it up midway through the first half. Becker took the lead again but Bobby Deatrick with an assist from Timmy Higgins would tie it up and end the half 2-2. The second half saw Travis Foster score his first goal as a Titan assisted by Nate Thiemann and Patrick Branagan score from Bobby Deatrick to take a 4-2 lead. Becker rallied with 1:10 left to play in the game to pull within 1 and pulled their goalie but the defense held as the Titan headed home with a 4-3 win to end the weekend.

Friday Oct. 2 is the home opener for the Junior B team vs. NJ Hitmen. Puck drop is at 5:45 pm. Admission is $5.00. Join the tailgate party in the back parking lot beginning at 4:30—bring your chairs and tailgate food and drinks of choice!
